February 24th, Montrose, CO. Today, former CD3 Congressman John Salazar announced his endorsement of James Iacino ahead of the June 2020 Democratic Primary. Born and raised in Southern Colorado’s San Luis Valley, Salazar has served the area in the Colorado House of Representatives, United States House of Representatives, and served as Governor Hickenlooper’s Commissioner of Agriculture.
John Salazar was the last Democrat to represent Colorado’s sprawling 3rd district, acting as Congressman from 2005 until 2011.
"I've worked my entire life to make my home, the San Luis Valley, and the rest of Colorado a better place, and was privileged to represent the 3rd District for six years in Washington D.C. I am happy to stand with James Iacino in his run for Congress. A strong Democrat, he has the experience needed to beat Scott Tipton and bring a real voice back to the people of Western and Southern Colorado,” said former Congressman John Salazar. “Partisan special interests have left us behind and James' record building strong working relationships and bringing people to the table is what we need to make sure our communities are thriving into the future."
With a second major endorsement in two weeks, James Iacino is making the case to Coloradans that he has what it takes to beat Scott Tipton in November. Responding to John Salazar’s endorsement Iacino stated:
“I am honored to earn the support of Congressman John Salazar. Having stood for the people of the San Luis Valley and Colorado for over a decade, his leadership and counsel will be invaluable as I visit communities and work to earn their support. I look forward to continuing his legacy and fighting to make sure the people of the 3rd district have a voice. "
James and his wife Meghan have two sons. Former CEO of the Seattle Fish Company, he has a proven record of creating jobs and growing a business while showing a commitment to his employees and sustainability. Having helped build operations in rural Colorado, James knows the impact that quality education and skills training can bring to a community. Covering over 52,000 square miles, Colorado’s 3rd District is one of the largest in the country and home to diverse communities from Grand Junction to Pueblo, Cortez to Steamboat Springs.
